FedEx Donates USD 1 Million to Aid European Migrant Crisis
FedEx Corp. has pledged around USD 1 million to the European migrant crisis. The donation includes cash and transportation support to help deliver emergency supplies and medical aid. Benefiting from this would be the people and the communities that are affected by the crisis.
“FedEx has been closely following the increasingly serious migrant crisis in Europe,” said Karen Reddington, president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “As a global express logistics provider, we are uniquely positioned to provide humanitarian assistance wherever it is needed, whether that means helping migrants to rebuild lives in Europe or providing aid to earthquake victims in Nepal. FedEx stands ready to work alongside NGOs and utilize our operational strength to help address the social needs in our communities.”
FedEx is donating USD 1 million through its humanitarian relief program to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). It will also collaborate with international organizations, including Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International, to work closely with local partners in the countries affected the most. FedEx’s contribution will deliver immediate relief and long-term support for those affected.
Details of the contribution include donating USD 1 million cash to IFRC to assist European countries including Italy, Greece and Macedonia. The transportation support is to deliver large volumes of essential hygiene kits for use on the ground by International Medical Corps in providing emergency healthcare to refugees in Greece on behalf of Heart to Heart, and large volumes of medical supplies for use in refugee camps in Turkey providing shelter for Syrian refugees. It is supporting the European branches of the American Red Cross by donating ongoing cash to their Annual Disaster Giving program.
Through employee donations, FedEx are also providing the younger refugees with “bags to the future” which contains toys and other items to help them adapt to their new surroundings.
