Air France Express Development and Investment
For the second year, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo hosted an event for a selected group of fifty Couriers and Express freight specialists in downtown Manhattan.
The evening was opened by John Scimeca (AF-KL Express Business Development Manager) with an overview of express market developments. These include the dramatic rise of e-commerce in the aviation sector and the information services built into the requirements for managing these new flows.
Jerome Balbi, the CEO of dynamic French express development organization “SODEXI”, presented the brand new $25M CDG automated transfer facility detailing the dramatically reduced handling time in Paris for transit shipments.
Andy Newbold (Northeast Regional Director) said: “AF-KL-MP and our partners are committed to the future of air cargo and to remaining at the forefront of innovation. At JFK and CDG we are building new air cargo infrastructure with new and improved customer options”. Newbold explained the much needed investments currently being made into air cargo at John F. Kennedy airport where Air France-KLM-Martinair and Alitalia Cargo (together with ‘CAS’) will launch a state of the art 77,000 square foot facility in January 2016. Apart from dedicated express doors and a purpose built VAULT, the new facility will boast pharmaceutical ULD holding capacity with split cell temperature options. This will enable heating in the winter to avoid ‘do not freeze’ shipment from falling below zero degrees centigrade and allow diffident shipments to be stored simultaneously at different temperatures. Customers attending were specialists from industries including Aerospace and Pharmaceuticals to Fashion, High Tech and E-Commerce.
