Emirates SkyCargo to Introduce Flights to Bologna
The daily flights will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, which offers 23 tonnes of belly-hold capacity on the first long-haul wide-bodied flight to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport. Flight EK93 will leave Dubai at 8:45am and land in Bologna at 12:20 pm, while flight EK 94 will leave Bologna at 2:40pm, and land in Dubai at 11:30pm.
Mr. Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo said, “Bologna is an Italian and European economic hub. But due to a shortage of wide-bodied aircraft service to the region, many businesses must truck their cargo over long distances to reach the nearest airport. The introduction of Emirates SkyCargo service to Bologna using the Boeing 777-300ER will provide businesses in the region with more efficient channels to reach their customers in cities worldwide.”
Bologna is Italy’s seventh populous city and is Emirates’ fourth gateway in the country. It boasts some of the world’s leading luxury car manufacturers, including Lamborghini, Ducati, Ferrari, Maserati, and Pagani. Bologna is also emerging as a center for agricultural, fashion, and retail industries.
With a total cargo capacity of 46 tonnes per day, Emirates SkyCargo flights will link customers in Bologna with cities worldwide. The top export destinations include the UAE, Japan, China, India, and Australia. The top exports are predicted to consist of luxury vehicles, textiles and clothing, ceramics/tiles, marbles and jewellery. Top imports into Bologna are predicted to include manufacturing parts, pharmaceuticals, leather garments, and perishable foods.
As part of its wide range of services, Emirates SkyCargo permits its clients to ship fruits, vegetables and pharmaceuticals using its Cool Chain services, which are aimed to maintain and accelerate the transport of temperature and time-sensitive goods. Customers are also able to use Premium Car Shipping services, which consists of door-to-door delivery and protective coverings.
Emirates SkyCargo already operates flights to three other Italian cities, with triple daily frequencies to Rome and Milan and a daily flight to Venice. The airline also provides a daily flight to New York from Milan. With the introduction of Bologna, Emirates SkyCargo will extend its European network to 38 destinations.
In addition to belly-hold capacity in its all wide-body fleet of 240 passenger aircraft, Emirates SkyCargo has a fleet of 15 freighters, 13 Boeing 777Fs, and two Boeing 747-400ERFs. Emirates’ freighter fleet serves more than fifty destinations worldwide from its freighter hub, Emirates SkyCentral at Dubai South’s Al-Maktoum International Airport, which opened to flights in 2010.
