Emirates SkyCargo Inaugurates New Cutting-Edge Freighter Terminal

Emirates SkyCargo has officially introduced its ultramodern cargo terminal at the Logistics District in Dubai South. The terminal was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, propelling Dubai as a leading global air cargo and logistics hub.

The cargo facility, called Emirates SkyCentral, can accommodate Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet of 15 freighter aircraft. It was officially unveiled at the Dubai Airshow event which was attended by distinguished guests, comprising of members of Dubai’s Executive Council, local authority representatives, members of Emirates’ senior management, along with the local and international press.

Mr. Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo, said, “The unveiling of Emirates SkyCentral is a ground-breaking achievement for us. It signifies our intention for future growth and confirms Emirates SkyCargo’s position as the world’s leading air cargo carrier. We seek to further develop the space we currently occupy on the land at Dubai South, to increase our cargo handling capacity from the present 2.3 million tonnes, to meet our goal of 12 million tonnes yearly by 2050.”

Mr. Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, were accompanied by members of the VIP delegation on a tour of the facility.

Mr. Sultan added, “This facility contains the best of what the air cargo industry can provide. As a result, we a capable of providing our clients with world class, efficient, and integrated services. This also stamps Dubai as a leading global air cargo hub, with the advantage of being centrally located between East and West. It takes a lot of effort to bring a facility as this one and turning it into reality. I would like to thank everyone for their support and dedication in realising this, from the Government of Dubai, and its departments, to Emirates SkyCargo’s contractors and staff.”

Mr. Mohsen Ahmed, Vice President of Logistics at Dubai South, said, “With the launch of the Emirates SkyCargo facility, Dubai South will embark on a journey towards establishing Dubai’s presence as a logistics hub. Dubai South provides the best connection point for sea and air cargo, which will develop the markets of the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.”

Emirates SkyCentral is situated 77 kilometres from Dubai International Airport (DXB). It is conveniently located, with factories and forwarders nearby. It is also in close proximity to the Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone.

Emirates SkyCargo’s double operation of belly hold cargo is being managed at its Cargo Mega Terminal at Dubai International and freighter cargo at DWC where cargo is transported throughout the clock between the two airports through a bonded virtual corridor. Since Emirates SkyCentral commenced its operations in May 2014, the movement of cargo between the two airports has become a very integrated and seamless process, with a transit time of merely five hours between the arrivals of goods to their departure from freighter to belly hold and vice versa.
