FedEx Extends Network to Nanjing

FedEx Express has announced that it has expanded and relocated its operations station in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The new station, which has increased handling capacity, aims to meet growing customer demand in Nanjing.

Occupying an area of more than 2,500 square meters, the largest among all foreign express enterprises in Nanjing, the new station has an expanded office and warehouse area with a total of 106 employees and 52 FedEx vehicles. The facility’s sorting capacity is now nearly two times greater than before, meaning that up to 2,000 packages can be sorted per hour.

“Nanjing is one of the most important cities for the development of FedEx in China. FedEx is committed to growing with the local Nanjing market by continually investing in its operations and improving our service offerings,” said Jimmy Chen, vice president of Ground Operations, FedEx China. “This new and expanded facility will improve our operational capabilities and create greater access to the global market, which will strengthen Nanjing customers’ competitive edge.”

Nanjing is a city of economic importance in east China. Its positive economic growth has provided a solid base for the development of logistics. Nanjing’s logistics industry now has a massive potential market. As early as 2014, Nanjing city’s foreign trade total stood at 351.6 billion, representing 1.6% year-on-year growth which is 0.3 percentage points higher than the import-export growth of Jiangsu province. This is indicative of an overall trend of recovering and returning to steady growth.
At the same time, given Nanjing’s status as a central city in the Yangtze River Delta’s logistics network, its logistics industry has on the whole experienced moderate growth.

For this reason, promoting the development of its logistics industry has become a key infrastructure project. It is predicted that by 2017, the value of the entire city’s whole logistics industry will have grown to RMB 70 billion .

“FedEx established its Nanjing Branch in 2006. To support Nanjing’s robust foreign trade and logistics industry, FedEx will continuously enhance its facilities and network to boost the construction of logistical infrastructure of Nanjing and surrounding areas through its fast and reliable international and domestic delivery services,” added Mr. Chen. “FedEx will also support the rapid development of the logistics industry in Nanjing through continuous service improvements.”
