ACI Reveals World’s Busiest Cargo Hub Results in 2016
Airports Council International (ACI) has released their preliminary 2016 world airport traffic ranking results. For cargo, Hong Kong has kept it’s title as the world’s top cargo airport for 2016, with volumes growing by 3.5% to 4.6 million tonne.
Rounding out second and third place respectively was Memphis International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, with MEM growing by 0.7% to 4.3 million tonnes and PVG by five % to 3.4 million tonnes. Notably, Hamad International Airport in Doha was the fastest growing airport with 20.8% growth to 1.7 million tonnes, moving it from 20th place in 2015 to 16th in 2016.
ACI said, “Air cargo markets experienced a revival in the second half of 2016. Despite the looming uncertainty regarding trade policies in the face of protectionist sentiments, heightened business confidence through inventory build-ups and increased export orders remained apparent for the short-term.”
