DHL Express Opens New Eastern Gateway Service Center

DHL Express has launched its 14th service center in Thailand. The THB 38 million Eastern Gateway Service Center (EGW) in Chachoengsao is set to capitalize on the future growth of Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).  EGW has the daily capacity to handle 23 tons of products and accommodate a greater variety of products with short shelf-life.

DHL investment in EGW highlights Thailand’s potential in developing it’s eastern region as an economic hub. Sean Wall, Executive Vice President, Network Operations and Aviation, DHL Express Asia Pacific said: “With its well-developed infrastructure and centrally located position in the region, Thailand emerges as a key ASEAN logistics hub and remains a strategic country in our network. With ASEAN trade volume expected to soar by 130 percent (to be valued at USD 5,653 billion by 2023 ) and Thailand’s logistics revenue forecasted to reach USD 96.5 billion by 2019 , we are confident that this new one-stop service center will help businesses to lower logistics costs and facilitate sustainable trade flow.”

Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand said “Retail e-commerce in Thailand is projected to reach THB 2.1 trillion in 2022, more than three-fold that of 2016 . The EEC currently contributes 20 percent to the country’s GDP and an additional THB 1.5 trillion has been allocated to support its infrastructural expansion to boost the country’s logistics sector. DHL will continue to expand our logistics service to accommodate the growth of e-commerce and global trade in Thailand. With EEC poised to be the next major economic zone in ASEAN, DHL will ensure that our facilities and logistics service are well-placed to support flourishing trade while staying ahead of the demand curve.”
