Ethiopian Airlines Starts New European Route for Horticultural Product Exports
Ethiopia’s national flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines have announced a new scheduled freighter flight which flies direct from Bahir Dar to the Belgium capital of Liege. Belgium is one of Ethiopia’s largest importers of horticultural products with the first flight on January 24 carrying over 45 tons.
Mr Tewolde Gebremariam, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO said about this new milestone: “Today marks yet another big milestone in the history of Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services for we start direct freighter service dedicated to flower with the aim of delivering the best flower produces of the country to end users fresh, timely and direct from the farm to Ethiopian flower in Europe”
Ethiopian Airlines is currently transporting 130 tons of flowers with their daily freighter services to Liege and Brussels. The airline has now cemented itself as a leader in the transportation of these types of horticultural products from Ethiopia to the rest of the world via their extensive network. This new venture has become a showcase for Ethiopia who will further expand by launching more services from many of their flower producing regions. The vast domestic network it boasts is the largest on the continent and now has the ability to fly 21 domestic locations with numerous frequency. The result of this accessibility aids in the economic growth and integration between regions and further encouraging tourism.
