Bart Pouwels to Head New Cargo Team for Schiphol Aviation Department

Mr. Bart Pouwels who currently holds the role of Business Development for Cargo at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam will begin his new role within the Schiphol Aviation Department on April 1st.

Mr. Pouwels will lead the dedicated cargo team and report to Maaike van der Windt, Head of Aviation Marketing, Cargo, and Customer Experience.

“I am dedicated to air freight and am looking forward to using my experience to ensure the value of air cargo at Schiphol is recognised now and in the future,” Mr. Pouwels said about the new role.

Mr. Pouwels has over 20 years’ experience in the air freight industry, and 10 years with Schiphol Airport. He began his career as a Key Account Manager for Jet Services before moving to DHL, where he held the position of Industry Manager Express & Freight for 10 years.

The new Schiphol Aviation Department will be made of five teams: Route & Business Development, Customer Experience, Marketing & Communications, Cargo and Traffic Analysis and Forecasting.

Maaike van der Windt said, “Bart is a valuable part of the cargo team, and he, together with Saskia van Pelt and Ferry van der Ent, will continue to focus and support the air cargo industry and continue our Cargo Community initiatives,”

“Our (cargo) mission remains to connect the Netherlands and to shape Europe’s smartest cargo hub.

“Integrating cargo into a bigger division will put cargo closer to the heart of our organisation as it increases its proximity to the airport’s Management Board.”

During his tenure at Schiphol, Mr. Pouwels has worked on several projects including airline account management, aeronautical affairs and slot allocation.

He has proven to be a key part of the initiative to drive the digitalization for perishables and cool chain cargo flows at the airport, this includes the recent data sharing program created by the Holland Flower Alliance.
