Jettainer uses Think-A-Thon to Explore Blockchain Innovation in the Supply Chain
Blockchain technology is becoming more prevalent within the logistics sectors as the platform offers enormous possibilities, German-based Jettainer has embraced the new technology by showcasing the possibilities at their three-day Think-A-Thon held during the recent transport logistic China event.
Under the guidance of Jettainer employee’s, 25 logistics students from Shanghai’s Tongji University were tasked with devising new applications in the global supply chain using the Blockchain platform.
On the last day of the fair the groups pitched their newly devised ideas to industry leaders in attendance, one idea presented was a blockchain-enabled database for ULD tracking.
Managing Director of Jettainer GmbH, Carsten Hernig said, “With the Think-A-Thon we have taken a new path and it has paid off. The cooperation with the students has been excellent and so many creative ideas for blockchain applications in worldwide supply chains have emerged. We will now evaluate them one by one in order to further develop the topic in our company.”
During the three-day Jettainer Think-A-Thon, groups of students were asked to deal with the topic of blockchain in logistics from differing perspectives. Along with the idea of a blockchain-compatible database for ULD tracking, the students presented the idea of integrating digital contracts into the blockchain, which are fraud-proof and uniquely tailored to the respective customer requirements.
The latter idea was devised to simplify the acquisition of smaller customers, as transparency between the contracting parties on one hand while marginal costs are reduced on the other.
Managing Director of Messe München GmbH, Gerhard Gerritzen said, “The successful cooperation on the Jettainer Think-A-Thon is a good example of the exchange between business and science. As a trade fair organizer, we strive to develop new, innovative formats together with our exhibitors and thus promote such cooperation.”
