Emirates SkyCargo Transport Record Volume of Mangoes from Mumbai
The freight division of Emirates Airlines, Emirates SkyCargo recently announced they had transported a record number of mangoes from Mumbai, India for the months of May and June 2018.
The company has seen a 50% growth in the transportation volumes for the delicious fruit compared to the same period last year. For the month of May, nearly 1,130 tonnes of Mangoes have been transported from Mumbai to destinations throughout the world using the network that Emirates SkyCargo provides. The mangoes were carried in both freighter aircraft and belly-hold cargo on Emirates passenger aircraft.
India is one of the largest exporters of premium mangoes in the world, with exports peaking between April and June each year. The largest contributor is the state of Maharashtra that accounts for over 30,000 tonnes every year making Mumbai an integral gateway for the export of mangoes.
From April to June this year, Emirates SkyCargo has exported a further 2,290 tonnes of various other perishables from Mumbai. The UK and the Middle East region have imported a high volume of fruits and vegetables during Ramadan, resulting in the busiest season for exports of perishables.
