Airbus BelugaXL Unveiled with New Whale Livery

European aircraft designer and manufacturer Airbus have unveiled their new Beluga XL replete with a special livery.

The first Airbus BelugaXL has rolled out of the paint shop sporting a striking Beluga Whale design, the livery was the winning design chosen by Airbus employees in a poll of over 20,000. Six designs were voted for with the whale design receiving 40% of all votes cast, making the smiley livery the outright winner.

The BelugaXL will now undergo several ground tests before its first test flight planned for later this year. The BelugaXL was first devised in November 2014 ad a decision to build the giant aircraft was made soon afterwards. The aircraft are all part of the strategy to address the transport and ramp-up capacity requirements for the company beyond 2019.

The A330-200 freighter was used as a base for the design of the BelugaXL and a large number of existing components and equipment were reused. The oversized air transporters will take to the skies in the summer 2018 and enter full service in early 2019.
