Emirates SkyCargo Transports Record Number of Vaccines to Brazil
Emirates Airlines Freight Division, Emirates SkyCargo recently announced they have transported over 25 tonnes of vaccines from Milan to BH airport, Bello Horizonte in Brazil using one of their Boeing 777 freighter aircraft.
This transportation project was the largest the shipment of vaccines that Emirates SkyCargo has transported on a single flight, it was also the first such a large shipment of vaccines had been delivered to BH Airport.
Due to the delicate nature and sensitivity of the vaccines to fluctuations in temperature, the whole shipment which equated to 1.8 million doses was transported in specialized containers that maintained a constant 5 degrees C.
Upon the arrival at BH Airport, the vaccines were unloaded from their containers and quickly moved to a temperature-controlled storage facility within the airport.
Emirates Senior Vice President for Cargo Planning & Freighters, Hiran Perera said, “Emirates SkyCargo is a global leader in the air transport of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals and our commitment to transport lifesaving medications securely is backed by our infrastructure including modern aircraft as well as our GDP compliant processes and our trained staff.”
Mr. Perera further added, “We planned every detail of this charter very carefully with our partners from mid-July to ensure that the vaccines would be delivered carefully to Belo Horizonte airport.”
Cargo Manager for Belo Horizonte Airport, Peter Robbe had this to say, “Negotiations for the arrival of this shipment included the visit of technical professionals who checked the storage conditions of our chambers considered to be the latest generation, to take advantage of the potential of the cargo logistics area of the Airport, BH Airport has invested in a new configuration of the Cargo Terminal and has installed two new refrigerated chambers to triple cool chain storage capacity to 3,350 m³.”
Emirates SkyCargo transports approximately 80,000 pharma shipments each year, the shipments range from small clinical trials to pharma charters on their freighter aircraft.
