Emirates SkyCargo Signs MoU to Support Trade in Vietnam
Emirates Airlines cargo division, Emirates SkyCargo recently signed an MoU with the Investment and Tourism Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) to work in conjunction to promote trade to and from Vietnam by exploring possible options throughout the region.
Since opening their Hanoi operations in 2008, Emirates SkyCargo has continued to play an integral part in supporting trade between Vietnam and the rest of the world. Over the last 10-years the company has increased the frequency of passenger and freighter flights Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, providing vital support to Vietnamese businesses in reaching out to their customers around the globe.
Through their network partnership Emirates SkyCargo has also benefited businesses in other cities across Vietnam, such as Da Nang.
For the financial year running from 2017-18 the air cargo carrier shipped nearly 50,000 tonnes of Vietnamese exports and imports, a significant increase of close to 66% compared to the previous year.
As a result of Emirate SkyCargo’s vast network of over 160 destinations, new markets have been opened up for Vietnamese exports with Emirates SkyCargo contributing towards a nearly five-fold increase in the volume of perishables in 2017.
Emirates SkyCargo provides over 1400 tonnes of cargo capacity each week for exports and imports to Vietnam.
In the last five years, nearly 47,000 tonnes of exports has been shipped from Ho Chi Minh City with a majority of the commodities from the region being fruits and vegetables, garments, sporting apparel and fresh fish. Hanoi, on the other hand, has seen approximately 65,000 tonnes of exports shipped by Emirates SkyCargo in the last five years, the city is a hub for the manufacturing sector and a large volume of exports shipped include electronic goods such as mobile phones and other devices.
