Emirates SkyCargo Celebrates Five Years of Rose Flower Transports from Ecuador
Dubai-based Emirates Airlines Freight Division, Emirates SkyCargo has been facilitating exports of Ecuadorian roses as well as other flowers and perishables through its freighter operations to Quito since December 2013. The air cargo carrier operates four weekly freighter flights to the Ecuadorian capital.
Initially, Emirates SkyCargo started with just one weekly flight to Quito in 2013, however, due to the continued growth in demand and trade flows from Ecuador, they increased the frequency of their Boeing 777 freighter flights.
The air cargo carrier has transported over 50,000 tonnes of Ecuadorian exports from Quito, a bulk of export commodities are fresh flowers including their famous roses. In 2017, approximately 12,500 tonnes of fresh flowers were transported from Quito to various parts of Emirates SkyCargo network in Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Emirates SkyCargo recently aided the growth of Ecuadorian exports of perishable goods including, baby bananas and mangoes to markets in Germany, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Singapore.
With the carrier’s three-tiered suite of specialized solutions, Emirates Fresh, flowers and other perishables from Ecuador retain their fresh picked state throughout their journey to market.
The Emirates SkyCargo network of more than 155 global destinations coupled with the development of new export opportunities has been making a significant contribution to the economy of Ecuador.
