Turkish Airlines flight TK6 from Chicago to Istanbul recently transported the missing pieces of the Gypsy Girl Mosaic to Turkey. The mosaic dates back to the second century B.C. and was discovered among Turkey’s historical Zeugma Mosaics.
The pieces were on display in Ohio, USA and have a significant historical importance for all civilizations that lived across Turkey and the Anatolian region. The flight and it’s precious cargo left Chicago on November 27th 2018 bound for Istanbul and on to Gaziantep in the Turkish capital in order to be delivered to the museum where the other Zeugma Mosaics are on the show.
The missing pieces, weighing a total of 1.3 Tons were wrapped in specially-designed paper and packed carefully in wooden chests with maximum care to preserve their historical condition. As this was such an exclusive and important shipment, no other cargo was accepted on the Boeing 777-300 ER.
