Emirates SkyCargo has announced the launch of dedicated weekly freighter flights to Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan, marking the carrier’s inaugural cargo destination in Central Asia. Commencing June 16, 2026, the new scheduled service will utilize Boeing 777F wide-body aircraft to establish a vital trade corridor connecting the region directly to international markets through its Dubai hub.
The weekly operation, scheduled to run every Tuesday, will inject over 100 tonnes of cargo capacity per week into the lane. This dedicated main-deck capacity is tailored to facilitate the swift movement of critical regional commodities, including high-value electronics, machinery, consumer goods, and temperature-sensitive perishables.
Strategic Regional Expansion
As Kazakhstan’s largest city and a prominent commercial center, Almaty functions as a primary economic gateway to Central Asia. This geographical expansion aligns with the D33 Dubai Economic Agenda, which aims to amplify foreign trade and solidify Dubai’s positioning as a preeminent global logistics hub.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, noted that the service responds directly to the dynamic economic growth observed across Central Asia. The direct connection gives local exporters and importers immediate access to a wide-body global network while opening up a highly strategic marketplace for international shippers.
Fleet Growth Underpinning Network Ambitions
The introduction of the Almaty route follows a period of aggressive fleet expansion for the air cargo carrier. Driven by sustained global demand, Emirates SkyCargo has inducted four new production-built Boeing 777 freighters into active service since March 2026.
With six additional 777Fs scheduled for delivery over the coming months, the carrier is on track to expand its mainline freighter fleet to 21 aircraft by December 2026. This influx of main-deck capacity complements the extensive bellyhold network offered across Emirates’ mainline passenger operations, supporting the airline’s long-term strategy to double its overall capacity and add 20 new freighter destinations.
