Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) have released their 2018 results, which showed a 2.65% growth for air cargo. While international air cargo experienced a slight fluctuation from having to rely more on other economies over the past years, 1.64 million tons of goods were handled through six of AOT’s airport. This figures out to a 4.46% compound average annual growth from 2009-2018.
International air cargo volumes at Suvarnabhumi Airport totaled 1,454,881 tons. Air cargo carried by combination aircraft shared a maximum ratio of almost 84.91% whereas the rest was contributed to all freighter aircraft. The international air cargo carried by freighters has shown a decrease in volume over the past 5 years with a 6.74% compound annual growth rate. On the other hand, air cargo of combination aircraft increased 7.74% over the same period. In 2018, shipment volumes of freight and mail carried along with passenger and combination aircrafts grew by 6.37%, where cargo volume carried by freighters dropped by 7.42%
The proportion of air cargo carried by passenger combinations and freighters were about 84.91:15.09, a slight change from 83.05:16.95 of 2017 and 81:19 of 2016. The different figures caused by lower number of shipments from major freighters such as Thai Airways, EVA Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, All Nippon Airways, Nippon Cargo Airlines, and China Airlines. Thai Airways was the all-cargo operator with the highest freight & mail volume in 2018, with 643,467 metric tons, followed by EVA Airways and All Nippon Airways. Tri-MG Intra Asia Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Korean Airlines, Neptune Air, Raya Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines were among many airlines that stopped their all-cargo flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport in this year. Hence the lower volume of air cargo.
