On November 9, the giant panda family consisting of ‘Panda Mei Xiang’ (25 years old), ‘Panda Tian Tian’ (26 years old) and ‘Panda Xiao Qi Ji’ (3 years old) arrived in Chengdu, China on FedEx’s Boeing 777F cargo plane. The FedEx Panda Express departed from Washington, D.C., United States, on November 8 in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Zoo and the U.S. Institute of Conservation Biology.

FedEx has long worked with Chinese authorities and zoos worldwide to transport giant pandas safely to and from China. FedEx is proud to contribute to the cost of transporting pandas as part of our social responsibility and continuously contribute to environmental conservation. During transit to China, experts from the Smithsonian National Zoo and the Institute of Conservation Biology looked after the pandas throughout their journey on the FedEx aircraft.

“We are honoured to be able to transport giant pandas again, and their safe delivery is a testament to the company’s commitment and capability to transport valuable goods,” said Richard Smith. He added, “We are proud to be entrusted with transporting three beloved animals through our global integrated air and ground transportation network.”

Before the trip, the pandas took the time to familiarize themselves with specially designed cages to ensure they were safe and comfortable during air transport. Upon arrival in Chengdu, Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, and Xiao Qi Ji were welcomed by new caregivers before moving to Shenshuping Center. However, first, the three giant pandas will be quarantined for about 30 days.
