Le Le safely arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on 16 January 2024, marking a new beginning for him. He is currently undergoing his second round of quarantine, which is a mandatory measure. The first quarantine stage was completed at River Wonders in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve before his departure to China. During this time, the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda (CCRCGP) will closely monitor him to determine the best permanent residence once his quarantine period is over.

On the day of his departure, the panda care team prepared Le Le for his flight and bid him heartfelt goodbyes. His customised travel crate was then loaded onto an air-conditioned truck, which departed for Singapore Changi Airport on the afternoon of 16 January 2024.

Present on the tarmac to bid Le Le farewell were Minister of State (Trade and Industry) Mr Alvin Tan, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore, Mr Zhu Jing, and the management of Mandai Wildlife Group and Singapore Airlines (SIA). They observed as Le Le’s travel crate was loaded onto the specially arranged SIA Boeing 747-400F freighter aircraft.

Le Le was accompanied on the flight by his keeper and veterinarian from Mandai Wildlife Group and a keeper from China. They frequently checked on and fed him during the flight, and Le Le took well to it. He maintained his water intake and had a good appetite throughout the flight, eating bamboo, bamboo shoots, fruit, and pellets.

Le Le’s arrival in China marks the beginning of a new chapter for him, as he is now officially a part of China’s giant panda conservation programme, which aims to protect the species.
