Kintetsu World Express (KWE), a leading air cargo transport services provider, has announced that it has partnered with Japan Airlines (JAL) to participate in the airline’s first-ever demonstration project on the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). As the launch customer, KWE will be part of a program showcasing a series of processes from SAF procurement to issuing CO₂ emission reduction certificates.
SAF is known to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 80% over its entire life cycle compared to conventional jet fuel. While the use of SAF has been widely discussed in the media, its production volume has not yet reached 1% of the aviation fuel consumed worldwide. It is expected to take several more years before full-scale production and stable supply in Japan can begin.
KWE has long been committed to reducing its carbon footprint and believes that spreading SAF is essential for the future of air cargo transport services. As one of JAL’s major business partners, KWE’s participation in the demonstration project marks a significant step towards achieving this goal. The company has pledged to continue proactively seizing opportunities to contribute to the industry’s decarbonization.
The partnership between KWE and JAL is expected to encourage other companies in the industry to adopt SAF, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future for air cargo transport.
