
Lufthansa Cargo participated in air cargo Africa & transport logistic Africa, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from February 19-21, 2025. The cargo carrier showcased its expertise in airfreight transportation, particularly for temperature-sensitive goods and perishables, highlighting its strong commitment to the African market.
Lufthansa Cargo regularly transports various commodities from Kenya and other African countries to Europe, including perishables such as vegetables, fruit, and fish. The company offers specialized logistics solutions for these sensitive goods, focusing on freshness, speed, and reliability. Other important exports from Africa include textiles and products for the automotive industry. Lufthansa Cargo also transports pharmaceutical products, machine parts, and goods for hotels and embassies to various destinations in Africa.
Expanding Presence in the African Market
“The African airfreight market is growing steadily, driven by increasing industrialization and trade activities,” said Anand Kulkarni, Head of Global Markets at Lufthansa Cargo. “Examples of this are the fruit and vegetable sector, but also a strong textile, automotive and mining industry.”
Lufthansa Cargo currently serves 31 destinations in Africa, utilizing a combination of freighter and passenger aircraft capacity. The company offers eight weekly freighter connections to Casablanca, Tunis, and Cairo, and leverages the belly capacity of 145 weekly passenger flights to 28 African destinations operated by Lufthansa Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Discover Airlines.
“During periods of high demand, we have the flexibility to increase capacity to meet market and customer needs,” said Kulkarni. “This is how we connect global markets and trading partners, true to our mission of ‘Enabling Global Business.”
Focus on Sustainability and Technology
Lufthansa Cargo is committed to achieving a neutral CO2 balance by 2050 through various reduction and compensation measures. The company operates the Boeing 777F, the most efficient and modern cargo aircraft in its long-haul fleet, and has ordered seven additional Boeing 777-8 freighters, expected to be delivered by 2030.
Meeting Customer Needs
At booth C-15 in the Sarit Expo Center, Lufthansa Cargo presented its latest offerings and flexible solutions for airfreight transportation, with a focus on temperature-controlled cargo. The company’s airfreight experts were available to discuss current trends and challenges with trade fair visitors.
