Yusen Logistics is the first Japanese freight forwarder to participate in the Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park (HKIALP) Initiative, a new project promoted by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) for cargo dispatching from Bonded Area in Southern China to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) by feeder directly.

In March 2022, regular sailing services under the pilot scheme commenced in the Dongguan Humen Comprehensive Bonded Zone (Below is the comprehensive bonded area.), Guangdong Province, to HKIA. This makes it possible to offer a new solution for the logistics industry, in which air export cargo can be weighed, measured, screened, palletized and accepted by airlines in the upstream comprehensive bonded area before being transported directly to HKIA by feeder ships and loaded onto an aircraft. We also aim to have both import-export operations in the next phase of this pilot scheme.

We are participating in the project as the first Japanese freight forwarder accepted by Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department. By using feeder ships as a constant route as well as an alternative to the recent shortage of cross-boundary trucks, we will ensure a stable schedule and deliver cargo from Southern China to worldwide via HKIA.

For our role in this project, in a meeting with AAHK, Ms Cissy Chan, Executive Director of Commercial of AAHK, said, ‘HKIALP Initiative is a strategic project in further entrenching Hong Kong air cargo services in the Greater Bay Area. We are delighted to have Yusen Logistics’ pioneering participation, and we look forward to our ongoing collaboration in taking forward the implementation of the HKIALP Initiative.’

Hidenori Hara, East Asia Chief Region Officer / Executive Officer of our company, said, “The Greater Bay Area, which comprises Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao, is expected to continue to grow, particularly in the high-tech industry, and its ties with Southeast Asia are expected to increase. In this context, the convenience of HKIA, one of the world’s top airports, will become increasingly important, and by participating in the project, we believe that we will be able to provide shippers with new transportation routes and contribute to a better connection between the world and Greater Bay Area.”

Our company’s corporate philosophy states that “Our Mission (MISSION)” is to become the world’s preferred supply chain logistics company and contribute to business and society’s sustainable development. As a partner who can work with customers to create sustainable growth, we will continue to provide optimal supply chain logistics services and promote initiatives that look forward and with long-term perspectives.
