DHL Group and Alibaba.com have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify cross-border logistics for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The collaboration will assess how AI-powered tools can support businesses throughout the international trade process, from supplier sourcing and logistics quotations to booking and shipment execution.
Integrating Logistics with AI-Powered Commerce
A key focus of the partnership will be the potential integration of DHL Global Forwarding’s logistics services with Alibaba.com’s AI platform, Accio.
Accio is designed to support SMEs with a range of business tasks through an agentic AI approach. Under the proposed integration, the platform would connect with DHL Global Forwarding’s quotation and booking capabilities, allowing users to obtain real-time freight forwarding rates, compare transport options and book shipments directly through the platform.
The companies said this would form the first stage of a broader suite of DHL logistics capabilities intended to automate business processes and improve operational efficiency for SMEs engaged in international trade.
Reducing Barriers to Cross-Border Trade
DHL and Alibaba.com said the partnership aims to make international logistics more accessible for smaller businesses that may lack the resources or expertise needed to manage complex trade requirements.
By combining Alibaba.com’s digital commerce capabilities with DHL’s global logistics network, the companies aim to provide customers with faster access to information, greater visibility and more streamlined logistics processes.
The collaboration also reflects the growing role of AI in supporting international commerce, particularly as SMEs increasingly look to digital platforms to manage sourcing, shipping and market expansion.
Supporting More Seamless Global Trade
DHL said customers increasingly expect logistics services to integrate more closely with the digital tools they already use to manage their businesses.
The partnership was announced during Alibaba.com’s CoCreate 2026 Conference in Los Angeles and forms part of both companies’ broader efforts to use digital technology to simplify international trade and help SMEs expand into global markets.
