CMA CGM $1.4 Billion Acquisition FedEx Supply Chain Strategic Freight Partnership

Global shipping and logistics provider CMA CGM Group has completed its acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain from FedEx Corp. for an enterprise value of $1.4 billion.

The transaction significantly expands the North American contract logistics footprint of CMA CGM’s logistics subsidiary, CEVA Logistics, while establishing multi-year commercial agreements covering air and ocean freight between CMA CGM and FedEx.

Contract Logistics Expansion in North America

The acquisition substantially scales CEVA Logistics’ warehousing and operational capacity across North America:

  • Footprint Expansion: Nearly triples CEVA’s North American contract logistics footprint, adding approximately 34 million square feet of warehouse space across 150 facilities.
  • Infrastructure and Workforce: Expands CEVA’s regional presence to more than 240 operational locations and a combined workforce of approximately 20,000 personnel, integrating nearly 10,000 former FedEx Supply Chain team members.
  • Strategic Sector Depth: Strengthens supply chain management capabilities in high-demand sectors, including healthcare, technology, consumer goods, and retail, while expanding the deployment of warehouse robotics and automation.

Multi-Year Commercial and Cargo Agreements

In tandem with the acquisition, CMA CGM and FedEx have executed strategic commercial agreements across key transport modes:

  • Preferred Ocean Carrier Status: CMA CGM becomes a preferred non-exclusive ocean carrier for FedEx, managing containerized ocean freight movement.
  • Air Cargo Collaboration: Includes plans for an air freight capacity-sharing agreement on major long-haul trade lanes, notably Asia–Europe, to optimize aircraft utilization and enhance network flexibility.

Executive Perspective

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, emphasized that completing the acquisition strengthens the company’s long-term investment in the United States and advances its overarching strategy to deliver fully integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions across ocean, air, land, and contract logistics networks.
