Logistics provider Kuehne+Nagel has opened a 3,505-square-meter healthcare logistics center at Frankfurt Airport, expanding dedicated cold-chain capacity for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments.
The facility integrates directly into Kuehne+Nagel’s global HealthChain-certified network, which spans more than 270 locations worldwide.
Infrastructure Design and Multi-Temperature Zones
Located in Cargo City South within a Kuehne+Nagel–owned 13,000-square-meter complex, the Good Distribution Practice (GDP)-compliant hub features direct tarmac access to minimize transit times and ramp exposure:
- Temperature-Controlled Storage: Includes 2,500 square meters of controlled room temperature storage (+15°C to +25°C) and over 500 square meters of refrigerated cold-chain space (+2°C to +8°C).
- Ultra-Low Temperature Capabilities: Houses specialized deep-freeze units operating down to -70°C for advanced biologics, vaccines, and cell therapies.
- Landside and Airside Access: Equipped with temperature-monitored staging zones, specialized pharmaceutical truck docks, and rapid apron connectivity.
Network Alignment and Transatlantic Corridors
The hub builds on several air freight infrastructure enhancements established at Frankfurt:
- Network Integration: Connects directly with Kuehne+Nagel’s dedicated Boeing 747-8F freighter operation, Inspire.
- Dedicated Cool Corridors: Operates as a primary node for the Frankfurt–Atlanta Cool Corridor lane, providing end-to-end GDP-compliant handling to limit Time Out of Range (ToR) risks across transatlantic trade routes.
