Cathay Cargo played a key role in the Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show, held at AsiaWorld-Expo from February 14-16, 2025. The cargo carrier transported approximately 70 horses from Europe to Hong Kong for the event, showcasing its expertise in handling live animal shipments.
“We were proud to be the official airline partner of the Hong Kong International Horse Show,” said Tom Owen, Director of Cargo at Cathay. “We flew in around 70 of the world’s finest sports horses from Liège and London to Hong Kong, ensuring they were well taken care of and arrived in top condition for their performances.”
Specialized Transport and Logistics
Cathay Cargo coordinated a charter flight from Liège, Belgium, using a Boeing 747 freighter to transport most of the showjumping horses to Hong Kong. The horses were accompanied by professional grooms who ensured their comfort and well-being throughout the journey. Additional horses, including Shetland ponies for the “Shetland Pony Grand National,” were flown in from London Heathrow on scheduled Cathay Cargo freighter services.
Promoting Cathay Cargo’s Live Animal Services
The Hong Kong International Horse Show, which returned after a five-year hiatus, attracted over 25,000 attendees. Cathay Cargo sponsored one of the showjumping events and had a dedicated stand in the exhibition area to promote its Live Animal shipment solution.
“We have flown in around 70 of the world’s finest sports horses based in Europe from Liège and London to Hong Kong, ensuring they were well taken care of and that they arrived in the best condition for their highly anticipated performances,” said Owen.
This successful operation highlights Cathay Cargo’s expertise in transporting live animals and its commitment to providing safe and reliable solutions for specialized cargo needs.
