National carrier Etihad Airways and aviation services provider Swissport have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Arabian Travel Market to expand their global partnership framework.
The agreement increases the number of international airports where Swissport provides ground handling and cargo services to Etihad from 30 to 40 locations across Africa, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia.
Service Scope and Operational Expansion
The expanded multi-station agreement provides standardized landside and ramp services to support Etihad’s ongoing network expansion:
- Core Operational Services: Encompasses passenger ground handling, ramp management, and air cargo logistics across 10 newly added international airport stations.
- Airport Hospitality Integration: Includes provisions to evaluate expanding passenger hospitality services through Swissport’s Aspire brand, which currently operates 110 airport lounges globally.
- Long-Term Framework: Establishes a scalable operational foundation to seamlessly add further stations and service lines as Etihad introduces new passenger and freighter routes.
Technological Innovation and Automation
The partnership emphasizes technology integration to optimize ground operations and turnarounds:
- Autonomous Ground Vehicles (AGVs): Exploring the deployment of autonomous equipment for ramp handling and baggage/cargo transfer.
- Operational Digitalization: Integrating artificial intelligence, predictive data analytics, and workflow automation to enhance turnaround safety, operational consistency, and schedule reliability across Swissport-managed stations.
