Etihad Airways Swissport Global Ground Handling Cargo Partnership

Etihad Airways and Swissport have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their global partnership, increasing the number of airports where Swissport supports the airline from 30 to 40.

The agreement covers ground handling and cargo services across Africa, Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia, adding 10 locations to the companies’ existing cooperation.

Supporting Etihad’s Network Growth

The expanded partnership provides a framework for Etihad and Swissport to add further airports and services as the airline continues to grow its international network.

By working with a single service provider across a larger number of locations, Etihad aims to improve operational consistency while maintaining common service standards across its network.

The companies will also explore opportunities to extend their cooperation into airport hospitality through Swissport’s Aspire brand, which operates 110 airport lounges worldwide.

Expanding Ground and Cargo Services

Under the MoU, Swissport will provide a broader range of support across passenger ground handling and cargo operations.

The collaboration is intended to strengthen operational efficiency and service delivery as Etihad expands into new markets and increases flight activity across existing destinations.

Swissport said its global network and experience managing complex aviation hubs will support Etihad’s continued growth.

Exploring Technology and Automation

Technology will also form part of the expanded relationship, with the companies exploring opportunities to use automation, artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve airport operations.

This includes Swissport’s work on autonomous ground vehicles and other technologies designed to support safer and more efficient handling processes.

The partnership reflects both companies’ focus on building scalable ground and cargo handling capabilities while supporting Etihad’s wider international expansion.
