MSC Air Cargo Inaugural Commercial Flight

MSC Air Cargo marks a historic milestone with the commencement of its inaugural commercial flight from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) this week. The new route will be served twice a week, signalling the expansion of MSC Air Cargo’s network and capabilities. The company’s fifth branded aircraft, a Boeing 777-200 Freighter (I-MSCA) operated by AlisCargo Airlines, will operate the route Malpensa-Hong Kong-Malpensa.

The strategic acquisition of AlisCargo Airlines by SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl, a subsidiary of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, is a significant move to strengthen the company’s foothold in the airfreight industry. With the acquisition completed, MSC Air Cargo now holds 100% ownership of AlisCargo Airlines. This acquisition, coupled with the addition of a state-of-the-art Boeing 777-200 Freighter, is poised to elevate MSC Air Cargo’s standing in the airfreight sector while staying true to the Italian heritage of the MSC Group.

Speaking on this achievement, Jannie Davel, the Senior Vice President of MSC Air Cargo, emphasized the importance of this acquisition and the new aircraft in advancing MSC’s strategy in the air cargo business. With their own European Air Operator Certificate (AOC), the company aims to enhance its efficiency and capabilities to better serve its customer base and trade lanes while upholding its commitment to providing specialized and tailored solutions to its clients.

Ricardo Cavero, Vice President of Commercial Sales & Marketing Europe & Israel at The Boeing Company, expressed his well wishes to MSC Air Cargo, highlighting the significance of the 777 Freighter as the world’s largest, longest-range, and most capable twin-engine freighter. He expressed anticipation for a strong partnership with MSC as it embarks on this new phase of growth in its air cargo division.

The deployment of the Boeing 777-200 Freighter, marked as Italy’s first brand-new widebody freighter in over four decades, underscores MSC Air Cargo’s dedication to sustainable growth, operational excellence, and a stronger presence in the Italian market. With five Boeing 777-200 Freighters in its fleet, MSC Air Cargo solidifies its position as a leader in air cargo logistics, particularly with an emphasis on fuel efficiency measures.

In addition to its fleet expansion, MSC Air Cargo has introduced Shipped Pharma, its first specialized product, and aims to achieve CEIV certification by the summer of 2024. This offering underscores the company’s commitment to meeting the diverse transportation needs of various sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, high-tech, pharmaceuticals, and perishables.

Despite being a relatively young company, established just nineteen months ago, MSC Air Cargo has demonstrated impressive growth, progressing from operating a single aircraft to a fleet of five. This growth underscores the company’s commitment to navigating the evolving landscape of air cargo logistics and delivering top-notch customer service.
