In a significant move towards greener logistics, the global logistics service provider Rhenus has announced its participation in the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Program. This partnership aims to reduce emissions in the aviation sector by investing in SAF, underscoring Rhenus’ commitment to sustainability and offering customers a pathway to lessen their environmental impact.

The SAF Program developed by Air France KLM Martinair Cargo allows participating companies to support the utilization of sustainable fuel sourced from renewables, including waste oils and agricultural residues. By contributing to the development and scaling of SAF production, Rhenus is taking proactive steps to address the aviation industry’s pressing environmental challenges.

Frank Swart, Head of Sustainable Air Freight Product Development at Rhenus Air & Ocean, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “SAF is a cornerstone for a future of lower emissions in air freight, helping us meet environmental goals while maintaining the efficiency and reliability that our customers rely on,” he stated. “This partnership reflects our dedication to addressing aviation’s environmental challenges through forward-thinking solutions.”

The collaboration with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo reinforces Rhenus’s commitment to reducing emissions and aligns with its broader mission to help customers achieve their sustainability objectives. The logistics provider offers additional services to complement the SAF initiative, such as the Emission Dashboard for tracking CO2e emissions and RHEGREEN, a calculation tool to optimize flight routes and fuel efficiency.

Robert Kunen, Vice President of Europe at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, highlighted the value of such collaborations in achieving the industry’s ambitious sustainability targets. “Together, we are taking important steps to reduce the environmental impact of air transport and accelerate the shift towards cleaner energy solutions,” he remarked.

Rhenus CEO Jan Harnisch reiterated the importance of sustainability in logistics, stating that joining the SAF Program reinforces the company’s vision to tackle climate change collaboratively. “This collaboration highlights how companies in logistics and aviation can work together to offer customers solutions to reduce their emissions and drive progress toward more sustainable supply chains.”

As Rhenus moves forward with this initiative, the partnership marks a significant step in the logistics sector’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its core operations, contributing to a cleaner, greener future for aviation.
