DHL Express has launched a new daily direct freighter service between Shanghai and Bangkok, expanding capacity on one of Asia’s fastest-growing trade corridors and strengthening connectivity between China, Indochina, the Middle East and Europe.
The new route, Shanghai-Bangkok-Bahrain-Brussels-Shanghai, is designed to support increasing trade flows between China’s manufacturing base and the rapidly expanding economies of Southeast Asia, while providing faster connections to key international markets.
Expanding Capacity Across Key Trade Corridors
Operated by a DHL Boeing 767 freighter with a payload capacity of up to 50 tonnes, the new daily service reflects the company’s continued investment in its dedicated air network to support customers in high-growth markets.
The additional capacity is intended to improve the movement of raw materials, industrial components and finished products between China and Southeast Asia, while strengthening onward connections to Europe and the Middle East.
Bangkok serves as a strategic gateway to the Indochina region, while Bahrain and Brussels function as major DHL Express hubs, enabling efficient consolidation and distribution of shipments across the global network.
Supporting Evolving Supply Chains
According to DHL Express, the new route responds to changing trade patterns as manufacturers in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos increasingly source materials and components from China as part of integrated regional supply chains.
The direct service is expected to improve transit times, increase network flexibility and strengthen supply chain resilience for businesses operating across multiple Asian markets.
The launch follows the recent expansion of DHL Express’ Shenzhen gateway, which has increased its cargo handling capacity to approximately 900 tonnes per day to support growing cross-border trade and e-commerce shipments.
Continuing Investment in the Global Air Network
DHL said the new Shanghai-Bangkok service forms part of its broader strategy to expand air freight capacity in response to resilient intra-Asia and international trade demand.
The company has also recently introduced a new trans-Pacific service through DHL Global Forwarding linking Southeast Asia with the United States, as it continues investing in dedicated air capacity to strengthen global supply chains and improve access to international markets.
