ANA Holdings (ANA HD) has finalized its acquisition of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), positioning the company as Japan’s largest combination passenger and cargo carrier. The acquisition, completed on August 1 through a share exchange with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, will significantly expand ANA’s global cargo network and transportation capacity.
Expanded Fleet and Global Ranking
The integration of NCA’s fleet of eight Boeing 747-8 freighters with the ANA Group’s existing fleet of six Boeing 767 and two Boeing 777 freighters will bolster transport capacity on key routes between Japan, Asia, Europe, and the U.S. This expanded fleet will elevate the ANA Group to the 14th largest airline group in the world based on cargo transport weight. Koji Shibata, president and CEO of ANA HD, stated that the move will leverage NCA’s freighter network and specialized cargo expertise to improve service capabilities for customers worldwide.
Strategic Growth and Financial Outlook
The acquisition is expected to enhance the ANA Group’s profitability and strengthen its resilience against market volatility. By combining ANA’s international network with NCA’s expertise in handling special commodities and mass transportation, the company will be better equipped to meet diverse customer needs. NCA’s financial balance sheet and income statement are scheduled to be consolidated with ANA’s starting in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025.
