New 10,000-Square-Meter Facility to Create 200 Jobs and Expand dnata’s Presence in Italy’s Logistics Sector
dnata, a leading global air and travel services provider, has announced a significant investment of over €25 million to build a next-generation cargo facility at Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP). The project will be managed through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Airport Handling, following a successful competitive tender process by the SEA Group.
The strategic development is expected to generate 200 new local jobs, solidifying Airport Handling’s position as Italy’s leading ground services provider. Once completed, the facility will span 10,000 square meters within the airport’s Cargo City area, boasting an annual handling capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes.
Versatile Handling and Sustainable Design
Designed to meet the highest industry standards, the terminal will support the efficient processing of specialized cargo categories, including:
- Perishables and Pharmaceuticals
- Dangerous Goods and Live Animals
- Aircraft Engines and Heavy Vehicles
Sustainability is a core component of the project’s design. Aligned with dnata’s global environmental goals, the facility will feature photovoltaic panels for renewable energy, advanced thermal insulation, and high-efficiency LED lighting. The site will also include infrastructure to support low-emission ground operations, utilizing high-efficiency climate systems and maximizing natural light in both warehouse and office spaces.
Strengthening Italy’s Role as a Strategic Trade Hub
Alberto Morosi, CEO of Airport Handling, stated that the move into cargo is a defining investment and a natural evolution for the company, which already manages 80,000 flights annually in Milan. He noted that Milan’s strong fundamentals in cross-border e-commerce and pharmaceutical exports make it a vital regional hub for sustained growth.
Francesco Raschi, Director of Cargo and Real Estate at SEA Milan Airports, described the partnership as a “pivotal step” in the evolution of Malpensa Cargo City. He emphasized that the collaboration with dnata would enhance operational capabilities and generate significant value for the local economy.
The new cargo facility is scheduled to become fully operational in September 2027, transforming Airport Handling into a fully integrated ground services provider capable of offering comprehensive ramp, passenger, and cargo solutions.
