Partnership Marks Security Provider’s First European Airline Deal, Bolstering Security at AMS Hub
Global K9 (GK9) has been appointed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) to provide canine cargo screening services at the airline’s hub, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). This agreement represents GK9’s first partnership with a European airline, marking a major milestone in the provider’s ongoing global expansion.
A total of four canine teams, utilizing Free Running Explosive Detection Dogs (FREDDs), have been stationed at AMS. They will support KLM Cargo’s screening operations while ensuring compliance with both EU and Dutch regulatory frameworks.
Efficiency and Security at Scale
The FREDD teams are a preferred screening option for high-throughput cargo environments like KLM Cargo at Schiphol because they offer the mobility and responsiveness needed to adapt to constant movement without interrupting cargo flows.
Chris Daniels, Chief Commercial Officer for GK9, stated that the consolidated FREDD teams are a necessary step in bolstering security at one of Europe’s busiest cargo hubs. Kester Meijer, Director Operational Integrity, Compliance & Safety for KLM Cargo, noted that GK9’s FREDD teams are essential for maintaining high security standards at scale without compromising operational speed.
The partnership also includes further training in Remote Explosive Scent Tracing (REST). This method uses air sampling and canine detection to identify explosive traces in sealed or consolidated cargo without requiring cargo handling disruption.
This latest agreement follows GK9’s recent European expansion moves, including a strategic partnership with a Dutch screening provider and the acquisition of a UK-based canine training company in late 2024. GK9 currently works with several major airlines across the US, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, DHL Aviation, and Lufthansa.
