Lufthansa Cargo and ITA Airways are expanding their cargo cooperation. Beginning September 1, Lufthansa Cargo will begin marketing and managing cargo capacity on ITA Airways flights from key Asian cities to Rome. The new arrangement will add flights from Delhi, Tokyo-Haneda, and Bangkok to Rome-Fiumicino to the Lufthansa Cargo network, with all cargo on these routes to be managed under the Lufthansa Cargo air waybill prefix.

Expanding Global Reach and Hub Network

This is the next step in a collaboration that began in May, when Lufthansa Cargo started marketing ITA Airways’ belly capacities on routes from South America to Rome. According to Anand Kulkarni, Head of Global Markets at Lufthansa Cargo, the expansion will offer customers additional capacity from Asia to Europe. The addition of Rome as a new hub is a significant development for Lufthansa Cargo, enabling faster and more reliable connections.

Subject to regulatory approval, the cooperation is expected to expand gradually to all of ITA Airways’ continental and intercontinental routes. Once fully implemented, this partnership is projected to increase the global belly capacity available to Lufthansa Cargo customers by nearly 20%, providing access to a broader global network.
