The Rhenus Group has entered into a strategic partnership with shipzero to expand the availability of book-and-claim solutions across its global air, ocean and road transport operations.
The partnership enables Rhenus customers to access audit-ready book-and-claim solutions that support the adoption of alternative fuels and battery-electric vehicles, helping reduce the climate impact of freight transportation.
Supporting Customer Decarbonisation
As a multimodal logistics provider that relies extensively on third-party transport capacity, Rhenus is introducing the book-and-claim approach to help customers reduce transport-related emissions where it does not directly control the underlying transport assets.
Under this model, customers can support lower-emission transport solutions outside the physical transport chain of their own shipments, with the associated environmental benefits allocated through a verified accounting system.
The solution is available across Rhenus’ air, ocean and road freight operations and allows customers to participate on a single-shipment basis or through larger ongoing or retrospective agreements.
Transparent and Verifiable Emissions Accounting
The partnership combines Rhenus’ multimodal logistics network with shipzero’s emissions intelligence platform, providing customers with transparent, auditable reporting of emissions reductions.
shipzero’s methodology has been independently audited and aligns with ISO 14083, the GLEC Framework and the Smart Freight Centre’s Market-Based Measures (MBM) Framework. Emissions reductions are reported separately from Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, enabling customers to document and verify their decarbonisation efforts.
Meeting Growing Demand for Lower-Emission Logistics
The companies said the partnership responds to growing demand for credible book-and-claim solutions as more businesses adopt Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments and seek practical ways to reduce the climate impact of their logistics operations.
By combining multimodal transport coverage with independently verified emissions accounting, Rhenus aims to provide customers with a scalable and transparent pathway to support their sustainability objectives while accelerating the adoption of lower-emission transport solutions.
