Air charter specialist Chapman Freeborn Group and its dedicated live animal transport brand, Intradco Global, have completed the complex air transport of 121 Mongolian horses between Ulaanbaatar and Hanoi. The specialist live animal operation was delivered through tight collaboration between Chapman Freeborn’s Asia Pacific team and Intradco Global, combining regional market knowledge with dedicated equine logistics capabilities.
The high-precision project involved three back-to-back Boeing 757 Freighter (B757F) charter flights executed within a tight 38-hour window. The continuous rotation managed a multi-stage transport sequence: moving an initial 51 horses outbound to Vietnam, returning 20 horses home to Mongolia, and delivering a final group of 50 horses outbound.
Bilateral Initiative and Animal Welfare Focus
The movement carried added significance as part of a wider bilateral initiative between Mongolia and Vietnam, with several horses returning after spending years abroad while new horses traveled onward as part of the exchange. The project also reunited members of the animal care team involved in earlier phases, bringing operational continuity and experience to the sensitive transport.
Unlike standard cargo, live animal charters require careful planning around aircraft suitability, specialized loading arrangements, regulatory documentation, and veterinary oversight. Equine movements in particular represent one of the most delicate areas of air freight, where stall stability, proper ventilation, and minimal ground delays are critical to managing animal stress levels.
Chapman Freeborn and Intradco Global synchronized ground handling crews and customs inspection teams at both Chinggis Khaan International Airport and Noi Bai International Airport, ensuring the three flights rotated smoothly across the 38-hour window without compromising welfare standards.
Latha Narayan, President APAC at Chapman Freeborn, noted that the project serves as a strong example of what can be achieved when specialist teams work closely together across the group. She explained that operations of this nature rely on trust, detailed planning, and continuous coordination to ensure every stage is handled with care, highlighting how combining regional insight with global capabilities allowed the team to deliver the agility and expertise required.
Charlie McMullen, CEO of Intradco Global, added that horse movements are among the most sensitive live animal transport projects, emphasizing that from initial preparation through loading and arrival, the priority remains protecting the welfare of the animals and ensuring the smooth, precise execution of the flight schedule.
