Lufthansa Cargo Import Customs Frankfurt Airport FAIR@Link

Lufthansa Cargo has joined the FAIR@Link digital air cargo platform operated by air cargo IT provider allivate.

The carrier will deploy the platform’s FRA-OS module to streamline and accelerate customs clearance for e-commerce and general cargo imports arriving via Frankfurt Airport’s Neutral Cargo Transfer Point (NFÜP).

Deferred Customs Presentation Streamlines Operations

The FRA-OS module consolidates customs data and tracking updates into a single interface, enabling automated processing and continuous shipment visibility.

Key operational benefits include:

  • Deferred Presentation Option: Rather than requiring mandatory customs presentation at the handling agent’s site immediately upon aircraft arrival, authorized forwarders can perform customs presentation later at their own bonded warehouses.
  • Direct Transport Route: Eligible import shipments transfer directly from the apron through the NFÜP facility to freight forwarders, eliminating the intermediate customs clearance step inside Lufthansa Cargo’s handling warehouse.
  • Continuous Tracking: End-to-end ground visibility from the aircraft to off-site bonded warehouses allows authorities to approve customs presentation across the wider airport customs zone.

Faster Handling for Time-Sensitive E-Commerce

Tobias Braun, Project Manager at Lufthansa Cargo, stated that deferred customs presentation enables significantly earlier cargo handovers to freight forwarders, providing critical speed advantages for time-sensitive e-commerce flows.

Expanding Airport Community Coverage

Lufthansa Cargo’s integration expands the operational reach of the FRA-OS module.

The platform already connects around 90 percent of handling agents and freight forwarders operating within CargoCity South, advancing the broader standardization of customs interfaces and cargo flows across Frankfurt Airport.
