Express logistics provider DHL Express and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have renewed their long-term flight operations and maintenance agreement covering five dual-liveried Boeing 777 freighters stationed at Singapore Changi Airport.

The partnership extension secures long-haul air cargo capacity connecting DHL’s South Asia Hub in Singapore directly with major trade gateways across the United States.

Operational Scope and Maintenance Framework

The agreement maintains the established operational division of responsibilities between the carrier and express operator:

  • Crew and Maintenance Support: SIA pilots will continue to operate all five Boeing 777 freighters, while SIA engineering teams oversee aircraft line and base maintenance.
  • Payload and Performance Specifications: Each Boeing 777 freighter provides a maximum payload capacity of 102 tonnes, delivering long-range transpacific transit for time-definite express and e-commerce shipments.
  • Hub Infrastructure Integration: Anchors long-haul maindeck capacity at Singapore Changi Airport to serve as DHL’s primary feeder and transshipment node for South Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Trade Corridor and Market Impact

The renewed agreement reinforces air trade links between the Asia-Pacific region and North America:

  • Continuity of Operations: Extends the joint framework originally established in 2022 to support cross-border e-commerce growth and high-value supply chains.
  • Strategic Logistics Hub: Deepens long-haul freight connectivity through Singapore, strengthening the city-state’s position as a central air cargo hub for international trade.

Executive Commentary

Travis Cobb, Executive Vice President for Network Operations & Aviation at DHL Express, stated that the five B777 freighters form a core component of DHL’s intercontinental network, providing the speed and operational reliability required for time-sensitive global trade.

Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer at Singapore Airlines, noted that continuing the partnership leverages SIA’s operational capabilities alongside DHL’s global logistics reach to support expanding express cargo flows between Asia and global markets.
