AIR ONE has inaugurated its first-ever scheduled freighter service with a Boeing 747-400F flight that arrived at the UK’s East Midlands Airport (EMA) from Hong Kong. The inaugural flight, operated by affiliate airline One Air, landed ahead of schedule on September 4, carrying a full payload of over 109,000 kilos.
The new four-times-weekly service marks a significant step for AIR ONE, adding a new pillar to its business alongside its existing wet lease and charter operations. The route is tailored for time-sensitive cargo, such as e-commerce and electronics, with late evening departures from Hong Kong and early morning arrivals into the UK.
Expanding the Network with a Strategic Hub
From EMA, cargo is distributed across the UK through Swissport’s nationwide road feeder services, providing fast access to key hubs including London Heathrow, Manchester, and Birmingham. The airport’s central location and 24/7 operations make it a strategic base for the new service.
Peter Scholten, Chief Commercial Officer of AIR ONE, noted that the full payload on the first flight demonstrated strong customer demand from day one. He added that the new route provides the foundation for a broader scheduled operations strategy, with plans to expand frequencies from Hong Kong and add further routes to the network by 2026.
