Chapman Freeborn completed a time-critical cargo charter, transporting oversized oilfield equipment from China to Saudi Arabia for a client in the oil and gas sector.

The shipment was arranged to support urgent stock replenishment, as global shipping delays and airfreight constraints began to impact operations.

Managing Complex Cargo Requirements

The cargo included industrial pumps, precision spare parts and oversized units measuring up to eight metres in length. In total, around 90 tonnes were transported using a Boeing 747 freighter, selected for its main-deck capacity and suitability for heavy and outsize cargo.

Due to fuelling constraints at the original departure airport, the shipment was first moved inland to an alternative location. Chapman Freeborn’s team coordinated overnight trucking and managed the full freight forwarding process to maintain the project timeline.

Coordinating Under Tight Constraints

The operation involved limited aircraft availability, routing restrictions and slot coordination at the destination, requiring close collaboration across multiple teams and locations.

The cargo arrived as scheduled, allowing for immediate onward transport and helping the client avoid disruption to ongoing operations.

Ronny Samaey, Cargo Charter Manager at Chapman Freeborn, said the project required continuous coordination across all stages, from inland transport in China to final slot approvals in Saudi Arabia.

Gerhard Coetzee, Vice President Cargo – IMEA at Chapman Freeborn, added that tight market capacity continues to place pressure on timelines, highlighting the importance of flexibility and global coordination.

Supporting Time-Sensitive Logistics

The project reflects Chapman Freeborn’s capabilities in handling complex, time-sensitive cargo movements, combining global network reach with local operational expertise.
