Oman Air Cargo Muscat–Kigali Service East Africa Expansion

New Route Set for June 2026 to Support Perishables and Global Trade Links

Oman Air Cargo has announced a strategic expansion into East Africa with a new route connecting Muscat (MCT) to Kigali (KGL), Rwanda. Scheduled to begin in June 2026, the service aims to strengthen trade corridors between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, providing a vital link for time-sensitive commodities.

The service will utilize scheduled Boeing 737 passenger flights, offering consistent belly-hold capacity for a variety of cargo types. This move follows a series of successful route launches across Asia and Europe as the carrier continues to position Muscat as a premier global logistics hub.

Boosting Perishables and Specialist Cargo Flows

The Muscat–Kigali corridor is specifically designed to cater to the high demand for Rwandan exports. Key cargo focus areas include:

  • Fresh Produce: Efficient transport for fruits, vegetables, and flowers from Rwanda’s agricultural sector.
  • Healthcare: Dedicated handling for pharmaceuticals requiring reliable transit to and from East Africa.
  • General Trade: Support for express shipments and general cargo destined for the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

Michael Duggan, Head of Cargo at Oman Air, noted that the airline is seeing sustained growth in demand between the Middle East and Africa. He emphasized that the new route allows the carrier to respond with the necessary capacity to help exporters reach global markets reliably.

Muscat as a Strategic Transit Hub

Exporters using the Kigali service will benefit from Oman Air Cargo’s extensive onward network. Cargo arriving in Muscat can be seamlessly transferred to major markets in Europe and the Middle East, reducing transit times for African goods.

By integrating Kigali into its network, Oman Air Cargo is helping to diversify trade routes and enhance the connectivity of the East African community with the rest of the world. The launch remains subject to final regulatory approvals.
