Royal Brunei Airlines has entered into a new, long-term partnership with Unilode Aviation Solutions to introduce Unit Load Device (ULD) pooling across its global operations. Unilode is the global leader in ULD management, leasing, repair, and digital solutions.
Operational Excellence and Sustainability Drive
This partnership marks a major milestone in Royal Brunei Airlines’ ongoing commitment to operational excellence and environmental sustainability. By transitioning from managing its own ULD fleet to joining Unilode’s global digitised ULD pool, the airline aims to increase operational efficiency, optimize resources, reduce waste, and lower its carbon footprint across its global network.
The adoption of the ULD pooling model enables more flexible, data-driven, cost-efficient, and environmentally responsible operations for both cargo and baggage ULDs. Badaruddin Hj Bagol, Chief Operations Officer at Royal Brunei Airlines, affirmed that partnering with Unilode supports their commitment to responsible growth, noting, “The efficiencies and environmental benefits of ULD pooling are clear.”
Benefits of Global Pooling and Digitalization
By joining Unilode’s growing global fleet, Royal Brunei Airlines gains access to equipment and expertise across key airport locations worldwide, enhancing service reliability and responsiveness. The airline will also benefit from Unilode’s:
- Global MRO Network: Providing on-demand access to ULD maintenance services, which reduces the need for damaged ULD positioning and generates savings in logistics and maintenance costs, significantly improving operational agility.
- Digital Tracking Technologies: Offering real-time ULD visibility, improved utilization, and accurate sustainability reporting to support the airline’s decarbonization journey.
Mohammed Akhlaq, Chief Commercial Officer at Unilode, welcomed Royal Brunei Airlines to the network, stating that pooling provides a “proven path to increase operational efficiency, reduce costs, increase flexibility, and make meaningful progress toward sustainability goals.” The partnership reflects a trend where forward-looking airlines are shifting from traditional asset ownership to an outsourcing model for smarter, more sustainable operations.
