Bangkok, June 30th, 2022: Kerry-Apex Thailand, a leading NVOCC and logistics provider, was certified by the Thai Customs Department as an official Authorised Economic Operator (AEO).

The AEO status means Kerry-Apex Thailand’s customers will benefit from faster customs clearance both inbound and outbound and will be facilitated with prioritised cargo release, even in the event of a disruption in international trade or catastrophic disasters.

As an official AEO, Kerry-Apex Thailand will be granted the following privileges:

  • Import Custom Procedures:
    • Exemption from a physical examination.
    • In case of any doubt or controversy during customs procedures or clearance, an AEO can consult with the assigned competent officers or customs committee at the respective customs office to seek solutions.
    • If a sample of goods is required to go through laboratory analysis or assessment before clearance, the sample of the AEO’s goods will be taken and sent for examination, while that shipment can be released before the final verdict is reached.
    • Importation of goods in the form of bulk cargo does not require a security deposit.
  • Export Custom Procedures:
    • Exemption from a physical examination.
    • Exemption from taking a sample of export goods.
  • Transhipment/Transit Custom Procedures:
    • AEOs can use their status as a guarantee instead of cash or a security deposit for transhipment procedures and Thai customs formalities.
  • Re-Export Custom Procedures:
    • For imported goods under the custody of the customs that are required to re-export to the ports from which said goods were previously imported (not including land custom stations), the duty will be a sum of one-tenth of the duty payable, but no more than THB 1,000.
    • Re-exported goods not under the custody of the customs will not be jointly examined by the competent officers from the Investigation and Suppression Bureau.
  • General Duty Drawback
    • The general duty drawback officers will reimburse the general drawback for each declaration containing goods of no more than 50 items within 10 working days.
  • Privileges on Tax Duty Drawback according to Section 29, and Duty Compensation

The issuance of AEO status originated with the realisation of the importance of security in the international trade and logistics systems by The World Customs Organization (WCO). Hence, the WCO set a standard framework for security and international trade facilitation (WCO SAFE FoS). AEOs must be fully qualified as specified by the Customs Department. They are required to pass the inspection and assessment at their respective establishments and can then be certified by the Customs Department as an operator with standards of security that meet the international trade supply chain.
