Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on boosting global trade to and from Africa. This partnership aims to support the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the recently signed UAE-Kenya Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), facilitating seamless global trade.
Astral Aviation, operating an extensive intra-Africa network, will partner with Emirates SkyCargo, which has a vast global network. The airlines will focus on handling sensitive cargo, such as fresh produce and pharmaceuticals. The MoU, signed at Air Cargo Africa, outlines initiatives to expand cargo interline options and block space agreements, enhancing connectivity for African businesses.
Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, emphasized the growth potential in Africa and the airline’s commitment to supporting businesses. Mr. Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation, highlighted the partnership as a pivotal step in their commercial relationship, aiming to elevate air cargo solutions in Africa.
The partnership aligns with the growing economic cooperation between the UAE and Africa, particularly the UAE-Kenya CEPA, which aims to accelerate trade and investment. By improving trade flows, the collaboration supports the goals of AfCFTA, which seeks to increase Africa’s exports.
Emirates SkyCargo, with a long history of operations in Africa, offers extensive flight frequencies to the continent. Astral Aviation, with hubs in key locations, provides reliable airfreight solutions within Africa.
