DHL Express and Neste have strengthened their collaboration with a new agreement for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Singapore. The deal, which is one of the largest in Asia for the air cargo sector, will see Neste supply 9.5 million liters (7,400 metric tons) of its Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel to DHL Express over a one-year period, beginning in July 2025. This marks DHL’s first direct procurement of SAF for flights departing from Singapore Changi Airport.
Fueling International Flights from Singapore
The SAF, produced at Neste’s refinery in Singapore, will be used to power about 35 to 40% of the overall fuel needs for DHL Express’ five Boeing 777 freighters. These aircraft are based at the South Asia Hub at Singapore Changi Airport and operate 12 intercontinental flights per week, connecting Singapore to destinations in Asia and the Americas. By using Neste’s SAF, which is blended with conventional jet fuel, DHL aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 80% over the fuel’s lifecycle.
Commitment to Sustainable Logistics
Christopher Ong, Managing Director for DHL Express Singapore, called the partnership a significant milestone for the company’s emission reduction efforts and a way to provide more sustainable shipping options to customers. The agreement will also contribute to Singapore’s national target of 1% SAF usage for all passenger and cargo flights from 2026 onwards.
As a major global user of SAF, DHL Express has been a leader in driving voluntary demand for the fuel. The company’s GoGreen Plus service allows customers to reduce their carbon emissions through the use of SAF, with the environmental benefits being allocated through a ‘book & claim’ approach.
