Emirates SkyCargo Dedicated Freighter Service Narita International Airport

Emirates SkyCargo, the dedicated cargo division of Emirates, has expanded its freighter network by deploying a weekly service to Narita International Airport (NRT), Japan. This addition increases Emirates’ freighter destinations to 38 and establishes the first direct, scheduled freighter connectivity between Narita and the Middle East, promising faster and more flexible shipping options.

Enhanced Capacity and Market Focus

Japan, with its robust and diverse manufacturing industry, has consistently been a priority market for Emirates SkyCargo. The new Narita freighter service complements the existing twice-weekly freighter flights to Kansai International Airport (KIX), boosting available cargo capacity by an additional 100 tonnes each way. Expected commodities include automobile and machinery parts, semiconductor parts, and sophisticated pharmaceuticals, which will be transported efficiently and reliably through the airline’s multi-vertical product portfolio.

Narita International Airport is Japan’s largest air or seaport by cargo value handled and is slated to become the region’s primary cargo hub by the end of the decade, supported by further investments under the ‘New Narita Airport’ Development Plan.

Leadership Insights and Network Expansion

Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, highlighted that expanding the dedicated freighter network is a key priority within their 10-year strategic roadmap. He noted that the arrival of new Boeing 777 freighters enables access to new markets with enhanced capacity.

Abbas also stated that demand for their services in Narita, particularly for pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics transported in passenger aircraft bellyholds, has been steadily growing. He explained that large or oddly-shaped shipments, like machinery parts, previously had to be diverted to KIX. The new freighter offers direct connectivity to and through Dubai, better supporting global customers and growing operations in Japan.

Emirates SkyCargo now serves four destinations across East and Southeast Asia with 57 dedicated freighter flights per week, supplemented by over 290 passenger flights weekly. This extensive frequency and capacity solidify East Asia as one of the airline’s busiest regions, with further expansion planned in the coming months, including new passenger routes between Dubai and Siem Reap (Cambodia), Da Nang (Vietnam), and Shenzhen (China).

The new service, EK9413, will commence on May 24, 2025, arriving at Narita International Airport on Saturdays at 01:00 AM UTC and departing for Dubai World Central at 03:00 AM UTC.
