Qatar Airways Cargo has launched a new Ramp Digitalisation Programme aimed at enhancing efficiency, safety and transparency across its global ground handling operations.
The initiative introduces a fully digital ramp environment, replacing traditional paper-based processes with integrated digital workflows to improve operational accuracy and turnaround performance.
Introducing Digital Ramp Operations
At the centre of the programme is Ramp Offload and Load Supervision (ROLS), a digital tool designed to streamline loading and offloading activities. The system replaces conventional loading instruction reports with a real-time digital workflow, enabling more accurate unit load device (ULD) verification and full reconciliation of cargo movements.
ROLS allows ramp agents to capture and transmit data directly to load control systems, reducing paperwork and improving coordination during aircraft handling.
Enhancing Efficiency and Visibility
The new system provides real-time loading confirmations and instant status updates, helping to minimise delays and improve operational visibility. It also incorporates features such as QR code-based scanning, service level monitoring and safety controls, including measures to prevent tail tipping during aircraft loading.
According to the carrier, the programme supports more consistent handling processes while strengthening compliance with safety and operational standards.
Supporting a Broader Digital Cargo Strategy
Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, said the initiative represents a key step in the airline’s wider digital transformation strategy.
“As the world’s leading air cargo carrier, we believe that digital transformation is not just a strategic priority but a core mindset guiding how we innovate in the cargo industry,” he said.
He added that the programme supports the airline’s vision of creating a fully connected and paperless cargo experience, with future developments expected to include QR-coded ULD tracking and enhanced digital integration across operations.
The Ramp Digitalisation Programme forms part of Qatar Airways Cargo’s broader digital initiatives, which also include developments in e-bookings, paperless shipments and automated warehouse solutions.
