Strategic Partnerships and Renewable Infrastructure Drive Decarbonization Efforts
DHL Group has announced a series of major sustainability breakthroughs across the Asia Pacific region, marking a significant acceleration of its net-zero 2050 roadmap. Throughout 2025, the company focused on three core areas: sustainable fuel adoption, large-scale fleet electrification, and the launch of the world’s first fully energy-independent warehouse.
Decarbonizing the Skies and Seas
To address the challenge of aviation emissions, DHL Express signed landmark agreements with Cathay, Cosmo Energy, and Neste to supply nearly 20 million liters of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). These fuels are supporting flights departing from major hubs in Singapore, Narita, and Incheon as part of a goal to reach 30% SAF usage by 2030.
The maritime sector also saw progress through a global partnership between DHL Global Forwarding and CMA CGM. The two groups purchased 8,800 metric tons of second-generation UCOME biofuel, an initiative projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 25,000 metric tons. These sustainable options are increasingly utilized by customers through the GoGreen Plus service, which now serves over 153,000 clients in the region.
Electrification of Ground Operations
DHL has significantly expanded its regional EV footprint, now operating more than 1,800 electric vehicles across Asia Pacific.
In the Philippines, the DHL Summit Solutions joint venture recently introduced 23 electric vehicles and 22 prime movers, while DHL Express added over 100 units across Korea, China, and the Philippines. Beyond standard EVs, the company is piloting hydrogen-powered trucks for long-haul operations in Japan. In Thailand, the company successfully transitioned its delivery fleet for the retailer Boots to 100% electric power, servicing more than 250 stores nationwide.
World-First Renewable Logistics Facility
A global milestone was achieved in Thailand with the launch of the Bangna Sustainable Logistics Center. Spanning 45,000 square meters, it is the first DHL facility in the world to be powered entirely by on-site renewable energy. The site features a massive 4.2 MWp solar array and a 10 MWh battery storage system, allowing it to operate completely independent of the fossil-fuel-based power grid.
This flagship warehouse, alongside new energy-efficient service centers in the Philippines, sets a new standard for carbon-neutral infrastructure. By investing early in these technologies, DHL is not only reducing its own environmental impact but also helping its customers decarbonize their entire supply chains through innovative “book and claim” systems and green logistics solutions.
